Posture & Spinal Health

Posture Guardian

The Posture Guardian is a piece of equipment used in my office to train better posture for patients with issues with postural distortions, however it can be used easily by anyone! We actually have two versions: Posture Guardian (viewed here) and Posture Guardian Pro. They both work the same but one is more low profile and the other is more firm. For more information on how to use, go to MyPostureGuardian.com and pick up your Posture Guardian at the office today!

Cervical Spine Roll Pillow

Used as a replacement for a traditional pillow, the cervical roll is meant to support the cervical spine while you sleep. Lie flat on your back and use the roll beneath your neck (not your head) just above your shoulders. The foam is non-toxic and supports the cervical spine curve while also avoiding forward head posture, unlike conventional pillows.

Personal Care & Other Products

Shoes

Many shoes are designed in a way that is "comfortable" but are not necessarily the best support for the foot and the spine. Ideally, we would use shoes with the following components:
• Flexible soles - so the feet can flex and grip appropriately
• No heel drop - the sole of the shoe should not raise from front to back
• Wide toe box - allows the toes room to move rather than squeezing them in an unnatural shape
There are plenty of brands but one of my favorites is Xero Shoes!

Cosmetics

I exclusively use Toups & Co. foundation, eyeshadow, mascara, and tallow balms! I love that they're a local company who focuses on nourishing the skin with their products.

Helpful social media accounts for how to check personal care product ingredients include:

Helpful Apps for checking ingredients:
• Yuka - gives a score between 0-100 for how clean a product is
• EWG Healthy Living & Think Dirty: These used to be more helpful but have transitioned to allowing companies to pay for product recommendation so I don't trust their scores as much anymore. But they are still helpful for quick scans to rule out a product.

Household Products

Choosing household products can be overwhelming when you are looking for products to use for your home to feel clean but also reduce the toxic burden on your family. What I found to be less overwhelming is to replace items with better choices as you run out so you're not drowning trying to research products all at once.

*As a general rule, I try avoid anything with fragrance: plug-ins, burning candles, room sprays. I do use a candle warmer instead of burning candles and try to use soy candles with natural fragrances (i.e. essential oils).
*Some essentials oils are not safe for use around infants and pets so always check before you use.

Cleaners

I use a mixture of distilled water, essential oils, and unscented castille soap as an all-purpose cleaner.
For laundry you can use vinegar as a fabric softener and a combination of soap and baking soda for detergent. There are plenty of resources for recipes online.
Silver also claims to disinfect surfaces for up to 4 hours - this is what I used to clean during the pandemic.

If you prefer the convenience of purchasing:
Cleaners: Branch Basics
Laundry: Molly's Suds Unscented
